Kaleidoscope – HANDS Drumming Festival, Jom Jom Drums!

Synopsis

This year HANDS adds a little more scope to their annual student concert series, ‘Drum Slices’. Kaleidoscope is intended as a learning festival for drummers, percussionist or for any music enthusiast for that matter. It opens with a drumming competition for primary school kids and a series of workshops by HANDS, Hands Gamelan Group, Wadaiko Syo, Mokaba Arts Group and Dhol Federation. Highlights of the festival are performances by these same groups, as well as Kencana Putra, a traditional Malay drumming group, ‘DeafBeat’ from the YMCA and drummers from several schools under HANDS tutelage. Having various drumming troupes participate, each with its own experience, makes it a great way to share and to learn skills and knowledge, for both participants and contributors. Moreover, having different groups of people together will create ‘sparks’ which will ignite into a wonderful fun learning experience for all concerned. We hope this first festival of ours will set a trend for our ever challenging art form.
