Synopsis
Having rocked the stage in November 2012 with their performance of THE NEXT, HANDS proved that they are on the right path of ‘Trending Percussive Music’ by winning awards for Best Original Composition, Best Musical Director, Best Solo Performance (Instrumental), Best Group Performance (Instrumental) and Best Production Values at the 10th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2013. When the opportunity to re-stage the production came up HANDS took the opportunity to grow, hence THE NEXT 2014.
In re-staging THE NEXT, the essence of the show remains strong. Traditional music and instruments are played and wound to thrilling percussion delight in the first half of the show. Here HANDS special guest artist Sangpuy Katatepan Mavaliyw the Golden Melody Award winner for Best Aboriginal Artist 2013 winner brings what can only be described as a sublime touch to the show. Sangpuy believes that as a member of any society one has a responsibility to give back. His soulful voice and rich aboriginal music reflect the fight he fights to preserve and enhance his home, tribe and culture in eastern Taitung County, Taiwan. This goes well with HANDS intentions to be rooted in South East Asian tradition and culture, then, to use it to create new arrangements, sounds and movements. Setting trends!
