HowZie began his journey on the bamboo flute upon joining Chong Hwa Independent High School Chinese Orchestra, under the tutelage of Long-Cheng Da and Yii-Kah Hoe. During his university years in Taiwan, he got intrigued by the sound of the Ruan and henceforth picked up the instrument, making it his the first instrument that is self-taught, followed by the SanXian.

HowZ returned to his motherland Malaysia in 2013 and has since been an active member in the performing arts and education, involving himself in creative work with Hands Percussions, The Actor’s Studio, Asia Musical Productions, Souls Impact and Masakini Theatre Company. Though a degree holder in food science, HowZ has been a familiar face on the stage of various Chinese orchestra concerts, as well as Cantonese opera performances.

14岁时加入吉隆坡中华独中华乐团开始接触笛子。竹笛师从龙程达、余家和。毕业以后次年赴国立台湾海洋大学食品科学系深造，开始学习中阮。在学期间多次参与大专院校演出，并加入台北新乐国乐团担任中阮演奏员。留台期间竹笛师从赵书雨，同时于枫韵工作坊担任笛子专职，为往生者与送葬者服务。2013 年回国，自习三弦与洞箫。除了多次与马来西亚Hands Percussion、Asia Musical Productions、The Actor’s Studio、红姐姐工作坊、Souls Impact、Masakini Theatre Company 等表演艺术团体合作，也加入益生粤剧社与研艺粤剧社学习戏曲伴奏艺术。
